Challenge Test

Challenge Test

The main purpose of the protective efficacy test is; To determine the effectiveness of the antimicrobial activity of preservatives used in cosmetic products. This test method covers the determination of the suitability of storing cosmetic products.

The test is based on monitoring the growth of microorganisms by storing an uncontaminated product at a specified temperature with the inoculation of appropriate microorganisms. Using serial dilutions and plate counts, the number of surviving microorganisms in the test products is determined at the indicated time intervals.

Products meeting the specified criteria will be considered adequately protected for production and consumer use.

The following microorganism strains are used within the scope of "Protective Efficacy Test / Challenge Test".

Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 9027)
• Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538)
• Escherichia coli (ATCC 8739)
• Candida albicans (ATCC 10231)
• Aspergillus brasiliensis (ATCC 16404)

The protective activities of cosmetic products are determined by counting microorganisms on the 7th, 14th and 28th days.

The evaluation of the antimicrobial protection of the cosmetic product within the scope of ISO 11930 standard is carried out in our laboratory within the scope of TÜRKAK Accreditation.
