Hygiene and Sanitation in Cosmetic Production

The basis of all tests carried out for cosmetic products is of course based on the purposes of protecting human health and the environment. It may also cause harm other than its intended use, especially due to direct and long-term contact with human skin.

The harms of cosmetic products actually arise because they are not produced properly. One of these reasons is the lack of hygienic conditions in the production areas. In cosmetics production, hygiene conditions are provided by “Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)” at stages such as processing, storage and transportation in the process starting from the entry of raw materials.

Good manufacturing practices are defined within the scope of the Cosmetics Regulation as “all standardized planned and systematic activities necessary to provide sufficient confidence in the production, control, storage and shipment of cosmetic products to meet quality requirements”.

The "Cosmetic Good Manufacturing Practices Guide" published by the Ministry of Health states what needs to be done in terms of hygiene. Cosmetic products offered for sale must be produced in accordance with the regulations. Products can pass tests and inspections within the scope of regulations. Depending on the results, when non-compliance is detected, they can be fined or collected from the market depending on the situation.

For a cosmetics company, obtaining a GMP certificate and applying it within the company is an important step in terms of the prestige and reliability of the company.
