ISO 11930 - Evaluation of Antimicrobial Preservative Efficacy in Cosmetic Products
Purposes of the test procedures under the ISO 11930 standard:- Evaluation of the general antimicrobial protection of cosmetic products
- Microbiological risk assessment
- Evaluation of the obtained data
Protection Efficiency Test within the scope of the standard, tests to evaluate the general antimicrobial protection of a cosmetic product that is not considered low risk under the ISO 29621 standard are performed.
It is a reference method to evaluate the preservation of the formulation of cosmetic products on the market within the scope of the protection effectiveness test. The test method, designed for water-soluble or water-miscible cosmetic products, is performed as a result of artificial contamination with 5 microorganisms at a concentration.
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Staphylococcus aureus
- Escherichia coli
- Candida albicans
- Aspergillus brasiliensis
Cosmetic samples inoculated with the above-mentioned microorganisms are evaluated by follow-up on days 0, 7, 14, and 28. The evaluation criteria are as follows:
- Whether the cosmetic products are protected against microbial proliferation that may pose a potential risk to the user
- Whether the microbiological risk in cosmetic products is acceptable.
