ISO 22718
Staphylococcus aureus are bacteria belonging to the family Staphylococcaceae and are gram-positive, nonmotile, sporeless facultative anaerobic cocci grouped in clusters. It is a worldwide bacterium that feeds on human epithelium. Since they are pathogenic bacteria, identification in cosmetic products is very important for the health of consumers.
Staphylococcal infection can cause boils, blisters and redness on the skin. For this reason, Staphylococcus aureus Detection should be made within the scope of microbiological tests performed before cosmetic products reach consumers.
Detection of Staphylococcus aureus under the ISO 22718 standard is based on obtaining the presence/absence information. The test process is briefly as follows:
- The cosmetic product sample is diluted 1:10.
- The diluted sample is incubated at 32.5 oC.
- The test result is interpreted by observing between 24 – 72 hours .
