Waterproof Test in Sunscreens

Waterproof Test in Sunscreens

One of the most sought-after features in cosmetic products today is water resistance. Water resistance is important for make-up materials and especially sunscreens to be used in summer. While producing cosmetic products, R&D studies are carried out for water resistance in line with the demands of consumers.

In order for the produced cosmetic products to be labeled as water resistant, it must be proven by tests and analyzes. The water resistance of sunscreens used on beaches in summer is more important than other cosmetic products. After swimming in the sea or pool, sunscreen should not lose its effect.

For this purpose, sunscreens are tested for water resistance.
  • After the product is applied, a drying time of 15 to 30 minutes is expected.
  • The first 20 minutes of immersion in water
  • Allow to dry for 15 minutes (no towels)
  • Second 20-minute water immersion
  • Allow to dry for 15 minutes or until completely dry (without towel)
By following the above procedures, the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of the sunscreen is checked before and after immersion in water.
